about

J-Mythos is a fictional persona created by a New York based musician. A time-traveler, J-Mythos is shuttled through the space-time continuum by mysterious beings who may be aliens, future humans, or a figment of his own imagination. Here in 2015, J-Mythos lives (secretly) in Prospect Park, Brooklyn and spends his time playing music and meditating. J-Mythos is a musical alchemist rigorously and vigilantly self-trained in the arts of beat making, guitar, and drums. Armed with an array of samplers and instruments, Mythos creates visionary audio movies. Layering himself with beats, guitars and vocals, he fuses the elements of rock, hip-hop, dance, punk, and the blues and filters them through his own mad vision - fabricating a new sound which starts with the past and ends up in the future.

J-Mythos burst onto the Internet with 2 startling tracks, a multi-layered groove heavy instrumental “JOANS”, and a heavy breaks remake of Oasis’s “Slide Away”. The video for JOANS features Mythos frolicking through the park in an outfit covered in his own drawings, and the track quickly went viral.

"2,000,000 Light Years" is a six song EP of remakes - reenvisioned, remixed, and rearranged versions of some of Mythos’s favorite tunes from the sixties and nineties. The EP was recorded and co-produced by up and coming producer Chris Peck (Christopher Paul Stelling, ANTI-). The title track is a reworked version of the Stones brief dip into psychedelia “2000 Light Years From Home”. Over a smashing, frantic breakbeat Mythos rips distorted, rhythmic electric guitar and hyper punk/funk bass; but it’s the vocals that steal the show. J-Mythos’ spits his rhythmic, signature vocal style almost like a rapper: flipping between emotional yowls, swinging syncopated phrases, and general weirdness. Mythos performs Beck’s “Pay No Mind” in a country-punk style on electric and vocals over a four on the floor house beat. Slowing it down for song three, Mythos gives a one-take, live performance of PJ Harvey’s “To Bring you My Love” - proving he can tear the house down on just guitar and voice as well. Returning to the Stones rich songbook, Mythos has the nerve to take sixties rock royalty “Paint it Black” and recast it as a boom-bap rap song with slinky guitar strums and a crooning, bizarre punk-hop vocal delivery. “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” is possibly one of the strangest things ever recorded - Mythos bellows the ancient lyrics while playing the drums, the vocal being manipulated live with echoing, delay-heavy dub effects by Peck. Lastly, on the Doors “Summer’s Almost Gone” Mythos conjures some future, cosmic cafe band playing on an interstellar spaceship - channeling visions of Ziggy Stardust, Tricky, Iggy, and the RZA.
